SEOUL, KOREA - LG Electronics decided to release its UHD TV at a price higher than those of its rivals such as Samsung Electronics and Sony. The company announced on June 3 that it launched pre-order sales for its 65-inch and 55-inch UHD TVs at a price of 10.9 million won and 7.4 million won, respectively, by July 25.
LG's UHD TVs will be sold through 1,100 stores throughout the country that deal with LG products, including department stores, Best Shops, Hi-Marts and ET Lands. This price is about 3 million won higher than those released by Samsung Electronics and Sony.
Samsung Electronics kicked off pre-order sales for its 65- and 55-inch UHD TVs from the beginning of this month, each at a price of 8.9 million won and 6.4 million won. Sony released same-class UHD TVs at a lower price of $6,999 and $4,999.
UHD TVs offer real-like image quality that is about four times higher than those of full HD (1920 x 1080). According to a market research institution DisplaySearch, the size of the world's UHD TV market is expected to reach 3.9 million units next year, a more than four-fold jump from this year.
