Hyundai Motor Sees Sales Up 10.4% in May

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor sold 402,406 units in May 2013, up 10.4 percent year on year, the company announced on June 3. Domestic sales, however, fell by 0.2 percent to 57,942 units due to a supply shortage resulting from the decline in the number of overtime work hours.

By brand, it sold 31,722 units of passenger cars, including 8,249 units of Avante, 7,771 units of Grandeur, 2,944 units of Accent, 1,154 units of Genesis, and 1,057 units of Equus.

Overseas sales reached 344,464 units, up 12.4 percent from a year ago. The exports of domestic factories fell by 7.8 percent year on year, but the sales of overseas factories jumped up by 22.7 percent.

Hyundai Motor said, "Domestic assembly plants reported sluggish performance due to a decline in supply resulting from the suspension of weekend overtime work. Overseas plants, however, maintained a brisk pace partly thanks to the opening of additional plants in China and Russia."
