Thursday, June 13th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA - In celebration of the 4th anniversary of the merger between KT and KTF, KT announced that it would create 25,000 new technology jobs while investing 3 trillion won in a faster Internet infrastructure. On June 11, the company held a press conference at its Olleh Square in Seoul's Gwanghwamun and revealed its future plans.

According to the plans, the telecom company would create a total of 25,000 tech jobs beginning with 1,000 this year, followed by 1,300 in 2014 and 1,800 in 2015. In addition, it will train 1,000 tech "dream teachers" with grants of up to 1.2 million won a month while offering jobs to 800 retirees.

As for the plan to upgrade its Internet networks, KT will invest 3 trillion won, 2.5 trillion won in backbone networks and 500 billion won in "last mile" home networks. The 3 trillion won is equivalent to a half of the investment sum made by three mobile telecom operators last year on LTE networks.
