SK Hynix Signs Patent License Contract with Rambus

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA - SK Hynix signed a patent license agreement with a U.S. semiconductor maker Rambus, putting an end to its 13-year-long patent dispute with the firm. Under terms of the contract, SK Hynix will pay $240 million over the next five years.

SK Hynix and Rambus jointly announced on June 12 that they signed a comprehensive patent license pact and decided to settle all lawsuits against with each other.

The patent license contract covers all of Rambus' semiconductor-related patents. SK Hynix will have the right to use the patented technologies for the next five years.

The legal dispute between SK Hynix and Rambus began in 2000 in the United States. The dispute, thereafter, evolved toward Germany, France and the UK, in the form of patent infringement suits, patent invalidity injunctions, and anti-trust litigation.
