SEOUL, KOREA - LG Chem will make forays into the 3D printing material market. The company plans to explore the rapidly emerging market earlier than others as the commercialization speed of 3D printing, the technology deemed as one of the technologies that will bring about a third Industrial Revolution, is picking up.

According to industry sources, LG Chem is in talks with the world's No. 2 3D printing company Stratasys for the supply of high value-added synthetic resin ABS.

ABS is resistant to shock and light, thereby ideal as replacement of metals in the areas of automobiles, home electronics, and medical equipment. At present, more than a half of 3D printers use ABS as a molding material for finished products.

An LG Chem official said, "The ABS market for 3D printers is small yet but has a bright future ahead. We are expanding sales targeting medium-sized processing companies."
