SEOUL, KOREA – On Wednesday, Samsung Electronics signed a contract to provide Ireland's Hutchison 3G (Three) -a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa - with LTE Radio Access Network (RAN) and LTE core infrastructure equipment.
Under the agreement, Samsung will deploy LTE base stations, including all associated systems and network support services, across Three Ireland's networks nationwide, with the planned LTE service launch in Dublin in August, 2013.
The deployment marks Samsung's second commercial mobile network roll-out in Europe and its first in Ireland. In July of last year, Samsung Electronics won a contract to supply LTE Radio Access Network (RAN) and 3G/LTE core infrastructure solutions to Hutchison 3G UK (Three).
"This contract will spur on Samsung’s business expansion in Europe. We will offer Ireland the highest quality of LTE experiences by leveraging our technologies and knowhow that we obtained in the leading LTE markets like South Korea, the US and Japan," Young-ki Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, said.

삼성전자, 아일랜드 상용 LTE 네트워크 공급
삼성전자가 10일 아일랜드 이동통신사업자 허치슨3G와 롱텀에벌루션(LTE) 장비 공급계약을 체결하고, 유럽 LTE 통신장비 시장 공략에 나섰다.
홍콩 허치슨왐포아 그룹 자회사인 아일랜드 허치슨3G는 2005년 서비스를 시작한 이후 아일랜드 인구 99.5%를 커버하는 전국 네트워크를 구축했다. 아일랜드에서 가장 빠른 성장세를 보이고 있는 통신사업자다.
아일랜드 허치슨3G는 삼성전자가 공급하는 LTE 기지국을 사용해 오는 8월 수도 더블린을 시작으로 전국망 LTE 서비스를 구축할 예정이다.
삼성전자는 지난해 7월 영국 허치슨3G와 LTE 네트워크 공급 계약을 맺었고, 올해 2월 스페인 통신사업자 텔레포니카와 남미시장 LTE 네트워크 구축을 위한 전략적 파트너십을 체결했다. 이어 아일랜드 허치슨3G와 LTE 기지국 공급 계약으로 글로벌 시장 진출이 가속화 될 것으로 기대된다.
로버트 피네간 아일랜드 허치슨3G CEO는 “아일랜드 4G 네트워크 구축 전략의 시발점으로 LTE 장비시장 리더인 삼성전자와 파트너십을 맺게 돼 기쁘다”며 “삼성전자의 앞선 네트워크 솔루션을 통해 가입자들은 더 빠른 모바일 네트워크를 경험할 수 있을 것”이라고 밝혔다.
김영기 삼성전자 네트워크사업부장은 “삼성전자 네트워크 사업의 유럽시장 확대를 본격화하는 계기”라며 “한국, 미국, 일본 등 LTE 선진시장에서 쌓은 기술력과 노하우를 토대로 아일랜드 시장에도 최고의 LTE 경험을 선사하겠다”고 말했다.
