SEOUL, KOREA – Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) ranked fifth in THE (Times Higher Education) Asia University Rankings, released for the first time by the Times Higher Education (THE), a weekly magazine based in London reporting specifically on news and other issues related to higher education. And POSTECH finished first among Korean universities.
The top spot was taken by University of Tokyo, followed by National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong and Peking University.
POSTECH scored over 80 points in the category of Citations: research influence (worth 30%), taking the No.2 spot in Asia.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings evaluates global universities in the following five categories: Teaching: the learning environment (worth 30% of the overall ranking score); Research: volume, income and reputation (worth 30%); Citations: research influence (worth 30%); Industry income: innovation (worth 2.5%); and International outlook: staff, students and research (worth 7.5%).
In THE Asia University Rankings 2013, Seoul National University came in eighth, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) 10th, Yonsei University 20th, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) 23rd and Korea University 28th.

더타임스 “포스텍, 아시아 대학 평가 5위…국내 1위”
포스텍(포항공대)이 영국 더타임스가 처음으로 실시한 아시아대학 평가(THE Asia University Rankings)에서 5위에 올랐다. 국내 대학에서는 1위를 차지했다.
이번 평가에서 포스텍은 일본 도쿄대, 싱가포르국립대, 홍콩대, 베이징대에 이어 5위에 이름을 올렸고, 연구의 영향력을 평가하는 논문피인용지수에서는 80점 이상을 획득하며 아시아 2위로 평가됐다.
포스텍은 교육, 연구, 기술이전 수입 등의 평가지표에서 골고루 우수한 평가를 받았다. 특히 기술이전수입과 논문인용도에서 다른 대학을 크게 앞서며 아시아 최정상의 연구수준임을 다시 한 번 입증했다.
우리나라 대학은 이번 평가에서 서울대(8위), 카이스트(10위), 연세대(20위), 성균관대(23위), 고려대(28위) 등이 좋은 성적을 보였다.
이번 더타임스 평가는 △교육여건(30%) △연구실적(30%) △논문인용도(30%) △기술이전수입(2.5%) △국제화수준(7.5%) 등 5개 분야로 나눠 상대평가로 진행됐다.
